ALL NATIONS CUP – Origin and Development<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Around the mid-seventies, long before the show commission had been founded, Mrs. Annette Hedley in England had the idea that there should be a show for Arabian horses that extended beyond Europe.
This event would be open to all nations whose stud books had been accepted by WAHO. As opposed to other international shows, this event would include an additional scoring system for the participating nations. Points would earned by class winners, seconds etc., as well as champions and reserves, and be awarded to the exhibiting country.
In order to eliminate the advantage in numbers of the nation hosting the event, it was decided that in each class only the best horses from each nation would be able to score, and for the final result, only the best five results per nation would be used.
This was to ensure that not the number of horses from each nation, but their quality, was the decisive factor in winning the Nations Cup.
Because of the good relations between Annette Hedley and Lady Harmsworth Blunt, the latter, a true grand lady of Arabian breeding, by way of the British paper “The Daily Mail” sponsored a valuable silver cup to be awarded as a challenge trophy.
At the beginning of this idea, a committee was formed by many well-known personalities of Arabian breeding. It was their task to work out the rules for such an event and to find the appropriate venues for this show, which should be of worldwide interest.
The first All Nations Cup shows were held with great success in England, Sweden, and Spain.
In 1983, the European Arab Horse Show Commission (EAHSC) was founded and in 1984, during the meeting at Hamburg, the “show pyramid system” with C-shows at regional or national level, B-shows at international level, and the major, significant international A-shows, for which the participants had to qualify, was developed.
In principle, an agreement was reached that the World Championships in Paris and the Nations Cup should function as an A-show an that an additional A-show should be established which was the European Championships.
However, the Nations Cup did not fit smoothly into the system and rules of the newly founded ECAHO since this Nations cup should also attract participants outside the borders of Europe.
The first All Nations Cup Shows until 1987 were held in accordance with the EC-rules, but the acceptance of these shows as A-class shows was refused, due to the above mentioned reasons.
In 1984, the newly founded Nations Cup Committee, which consisted of Mr. A. Hedley (GB), Mrs. D. Stream (USA) and as chairman Dr. H.-J. Nagel (D), for the first time entrusted the organization of the 5th All
Nations Cup to the German Arabian Society, which had been holding international shows at Aachen successfully since 1979.
Eleven nations competed with their best horses at Aachen, and in the end Holland won the Nations Cup, closely followed by Poland and Germany.
In 1985, the 6th All Nations Cup was organized at Frauenfeld by the Swiss Arabian Society, again with good participation and with Spain winning and Holland in second place.
Since the original idea had been to hold the event in a different country each year, the committee looked for a new venue in 1986. Denmark initially showed great interest in hosting the 1986 event, but in the end did not feel up to the task. In 1987, after due consideration, the committee again approached the German society and suggested that Germany might permanently organize these shows together with the Nations Cup Committee. A treaty was set up, signed by both parties, and since 1987 all Nations Cup shows have taken place at Aachen.
Following talks between the Nations Cup Committee, the German Arab Horse Society and the European Show Commission, the Nations Cup was finally accepted as an ECAHO class A show in 1989. Today this show, together withthe European and the World Champonships, is one of the three most important international shows, to which up to 20 nations regularly send their very best horses.
Following the death of Lady Harmsworth Blunt in 1992, the prize was re-named by the Daily Mail as “The Lady Harmsworth Blunt Memorial Trophy”.
Originally, the 11th All Nations Cup was to be held at Aachen in 1994. However, when the European Championships were allocated to the Southern European area that year, the Nations Cup Committee granted the urgent request of many breeders from several countries and held the 11th All Nations Cup at Aachen in 1993. From then on, it was decided to hold the show annually rather than every second year.
Since then, the All Nations Cup is held each year on the last weekend in September at Aachen and is known throughout the world as the most honest and correct show in the world, as well as the toughest, because of the high quality of its entries.
In 2001, Annette and Ian Hedley and The Hon. Mrs. Mary Ann Wragg developed the idea to award a second prize in addition to the All Nations Cup\/The Lady Harmsworth Blunt Memorial Trophy, in order to honour those nations who had not only exhibited, but bred the best horses at the show.
This newly created challenge trophy is a beautiful bronze created by the American articst, Mrs. Karen Casper, depicting a purebred Arabian mare lowering her head protectively towards her new-born-foal lying on the ground.
This valuable bronze is a challenge trophy which is passed on at each Nations Cup Show to a new winner. The winner in addition receives a bronze plaque which depicts the mare and foal in relief.
Shortly after the realization of this idea and the completion of the bronze, Ian Hedley, many years general secretary of WAHO, died. In his honour this new prize has been named “Major T.W.I. Memorial Trophy”.
It was awarded to for the first time at the 19th All Nations Cup in 2001 to Poland. In 2002 it was passed on to the successful breeders from Qatar, 2003 und 2004 to Belgium, in 2004 again to Belgium, 2005 to the United Arab Emirates, 2006 and 2007 to Poland
In 2002, the All Nations Cup Committe was joined by Mr. Hassanain Al-Nakeeb, a competend and successful breeder of the very best Arabian horses who originally had a stud farm in Jordan. A few years ago he relocated to England and continued his breeding operation there.
In 2008 Sylvie Eberhardt was invited to join the All Nations Cup Committee. Herself being an experienced breeder of Arabian Horses for many years as well as an international highly respected judge on the A- list of ECAHO judges, she was also elected in 2007 to join the EC board of the ECAHO.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Etwa Mitte der 70er Jahre, lange bevor die europ\u00e4ische Schaukommission gegr\u00fcndet wurde, hatte Mrs. Annette Hedley, England, die Idee, dass es eine Veranstaltung f\u00fcr Arabische Vollbl\u00fcter \u00fcber Europas Grenzen hinaus geben m\u00fcsste.
Alle Nationen, die ein von der WAHO anerkanntes Stutbuch f\u00fchren, sollten dazu eingeladen werden. Als Besonderheit im Vergleich zu anderen bereits vorhandenen Schauveranstaltungen sollte eine Nationenpreiswertung eingef\u00fchrt werden, bei der nach einem sorgf\u00e4ltigen System die Klassensieger bzw. Platzierten und die Championatsgewinner eine bestimmte Punktzahl f\u00fcr das Land erringen k\u00f6nnen, f\u00fcr das sie starten.
Um den Heimvorteil der Nation, die die Veranstaltung ausrichtet, und die in der Regel die meisten teilnehmenden Pferde stellt, auszugleichen, wurde beschlossen, dass in jeder Zuchtschauklasse nur f\u00fcr jede teilnehmende Nation das beste Ergebnis notiert wird und dass f\u00fcr die Ermittlung der siegenden Nation und der weiteren Platzierungen nur die besten f\u00fcnf Ergebnisse eines Landes zur Berechnung herangezogen werden.
Damit wird gew\u00e4hrleistet, dass nicht die Zahl der teilnehmenden Pferde eines jeweiligen Landes, sondern vornehmlich die Qualit\u00e4t ausschlaggebend ist f\u00fcr den m\u00f6glichen Gewinn des Nations Cups.
Aufgrund der guten freundschaftlichen Kontakte zwischen Mrs. Annette Hedley und Lady Harmsworth Blunt konnte diese Grande Dame der Vollblutaraberzucht dazu gewonnen werden, einen wertvollen silbernen Pokal als Wanderpreis \u00fcber die britische Zeitung “The Daily Mail” zu stiften.
Zu Beginn dieser Idee wurde ein international zusammengesetztes Komitee gebildet, dem viele namhafte Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten aus der Vollblutaraber-Szene angeh\u00f6rten. Die Aufgabe des Komitees war, die Modalit\u00e4ten sowie das Regelwerk f\u00fcr diese Veranstaltung auszuarbeiten und geeignete Pl\u00e4tze f\u00fcr diese gro\u00dfe, weltweit Beachtung findende, Zuchtschau zu finden.
Die ersten All Nations Cup Veranstaltungen wurden mit Erfolg in England, Schweden und Spanien durchgef\u00fchrt.
1983 wurde die European Conference of Arab Horse Organisation (ECAHO) gegr\u00fcndet und 1984 anl\u00e4\u00dflich der 2. Sitzung dieser Organisation in Hamburg das \u201eSchaupyramidensystem\u201c mit den C-Schauen auf regionaler bzw. nationaler und den B-Schauen auf internationaler Ebene sowie den gro\u00dfen bedeutungsvollen internationalen A-Schauen, zu deren Teilnahme man sich qualifizieren mu\u00df, arbeitet. Im Prinzip einigte man sich darauf, das World Championat in Paris und den Nation Cup als A-Schau zu etablieren und schuf eine weitere Veranstaltung als A-Schau, und zwar das Europ\u00e4ische Championat.
Der All Nations Cup passte dann doch nicht so reibungslos in das von der EAHSC ausgearbeitete System und Regelwerk, da diese Veranstaltung ja Teilnehmer \u00fcber Europas Grenzen hinaus ansprechen sollte.
Die ersten All Nations Cup Veranstaltungen bis einschlie\u00dflich 1987 fanden zwar in Anlehnung an das Regelwerk der EAHSC statt, doch die Anerkennung als A-Schau wurde von der ECAHO verweigert, da man dem Nation Cup Komitee ihre eigenen unabh\u00e4ngigen Rechte nicht zubilligen wollte und es Auseinandersetzungen dar\u00fcber gab, wie die Interessen der Aussteller derjenigen Nationen ber\u00fccksichtigt werden k\u00f6nnten, die nicht bzw. noch nicht Mitglied der European Conference of Arab Horses (ECAHO) waren.
Das in der Zwischenzeit neu gegr\u00fcndete Nations Cup Komitee, dem Mrs. D. Wrigley (USA), Mrs. A. Hedley (GB), Mrs. D. Stream (USA) sowie als Vorsitzender Dr. H.-J. Nagel (D) angeh\u00f6ren, vergab 1984 erstmalig den damals 5. All Nations Cup an den Deutschen Araberzuchtverband, der seit 1979 mit Erfolg Zuchtschauveranstaltungen in Aachen durchf\u00fchrt.
Es entsandten damals elf Nationen bestes Pferdematerial nach Aachen, und nach spannenden Konkurrenzen konnte mit knappem Ergebnis Holland den Nations Cup-Pokal vor Polen und Deutschland erringen.
1985 wurde der 6. All Nations Cup in Frauenfeld von der Schweizer Zuchtgenossenschaft f\u00fcr Arabische Pferde mit ebenfalls gro\u00dfer Beteiligung und einem Sieg der spanischen Nation vor Holland ausgetragen.
Da der urspr\u00fcngliche Gedanke war, den Veranstaltungsort des All Nations Cup zu wechseln, sah sich das Nations Cup Komitee nach einem weiteren Veranstalter um. D\u00e4nemark war zun\u00e4chst stark daran interessiert, 1986 die Organisation in die Hand zu nehmen, f\u00fchlte sich jedoch dann dieser gro\u00dfen Aufgabe nicht gewachsen. 1987 trat das Nations Cup Komitee nach reiflicher \u00dcberlegung an den Verband der Z\u00fcchter des Arabischen Pferdes e.V. heran, mit dem Wunsch, diese wichtige Schau fest an den Verband zu \u00fcbergeben, der zuk\u00fcnftig in Kooperation mit dem Nations Cup Komitee die All Nations Cup Veranstaltungen ausrichten sollte. Ein entsprechender Vertrag wurde erarbeitet, von beiden Seiten unterzeichnet, und seit 1987 fanden die weiteren Nationen Preis-Veranstaltungen in Aachen statt.
Nach Gespr\u00e4chen zwischen dem Nations Cup Komitee, dem deutschen Araberverband und der Europ\u00e4ischen Schaukommision konnte man sich auf eine Anerkennung des Nation Cups als A-Schau ab 1998 einigen. Diese Veranstaltung, das Europa-Championat sowie das Welt-Championat in Paris sind derzeit die wichtigsten Schauveranstaltungen, zu denen das beste Pferdematerial aus bis zu 20 Nationen entsandt wird.
Nach dem Tode von Lady Harmsworth Blunt wurde 1992 der Wanderpokal der Daily Mail in “The Lady Harmsworth Blunt Memorial Trophy” umbenannt.
Der 11. All Nation Cup sollte urspr\u00fcnglich erst 1994 wieder in Aachen ausgetragen werden. Nachdem in diesem Jahr jedoch das Europa-Championat an den s\u00fcdlichen Raum Europas gelegt wurde, entschied das Nations Cup Komitee auf eindringliche Bitten von Z\u00fcchtern aus vielen L\u00e4ndern, den 11. All Nations Cup doch 1993 in Aachen zu organisieren und zuk\u00fcnftig einen j\u00e4hrlichen Austragungsrhythmus zu nutzen.
Seitdem findet der All Nations Cup jedes Jahr am letzten Wochenende im September in Aachen statt und gilt weltweit als die ehrlichste, korrekteste und aus qualitativer Sicht betreffend des Pferdematerials als schwerste Schau der Welt.
Im Jahr 2001 wurde in Gespr\u00e4chen zwischen Annette und Ian Hedley sowie The hon. Mrs. Mary Ann Wragg die Idee entwickelt, erg\u00e4nzend zu dem All Nations Cup, “The Lady Harmsworth Blunt Memorial Trophy”, einen besonderen Preis zu kreieren, mit dem die Leistungen der Z\u00fcchter, der anl\u00e4sslich des All Nations Cups erfolgreich ausgestellten Pferde, honoriert werden soll.
Dieser neu ins Leben gerufene Wanderpokal ist eine wundersch\u00f6ne Bronze, die erstellt wurde von der bedeutenden K\u00fcnstlerin Mrs. Caren Kasper, USA. Die Bronze stellt eine Vollblutaraberstute dar, die ihr Haupt zu ihrem auf dem Boden liegenden Fohlen senkt und den Eindruck vermittelt, dieses zu beh\u00fcten.
Diese wertvolle Bronze ist ein Wanderpokal, der anl\u00e4sslich einer jeden All Nations Cup Veranstaltung wieder neu zur Verf\u00fcgung gestellt werden muss. Die Gewinner des Wanderpokals erhalten zus\u00e4tzlich eine Bronzeplakette, auf der reliefartig die Stute mit ihrem Fohlen zu sehen ist.
Kurz nach Entwicklung der Idee und Verwirklichung des Auftrages durch die K\u00fcnstlerin verstarb der langj\u00e4hrige Generalsekret\u00e4r der WAHO, Mr. Ian Hedley. Ihm zu Ehren wurde dieser neue Wanderpokal f\u00fcr die All Nations Cup-Z\u00fcchterwertung umbenannt in “Major T. W. I. Hedley Memorial Trophy”.
Sie wurde erstmalig vergeben anl\u00e4sslich des 19. All Nations Cups im Jahr 2001 an die Z\u00fcchter in Polen. Im Jahr 2002 ging sie an die erfolgreichen Z\u00fcchter aus Qatar, 2003 und 2004 an Belgien, 2004 wieder an Belgien, 2005 an die Arabischen Emirate, 2006 und 2007 an Polen.
